"Be imitators of God as beloved children..."
Great devotional today...."Fit to Serve." After reading the scriptures and our devotion,
I wrote five things that will help me to always be fit to serve:
1. love others as Jesus loves us
2. walk away from sin and anything that might hinder me in our walk w/Christ
3. surround myself with Godly influences in my life.
4. keep my focus (attention and eyes) on God and His will for my life.
5. walk daily w/God through prayer, Bible reading, meditating on His Word through memorization.
A special congrats goes to yesterday's
Sonic Card winner:
Aaryn Elliott
Students, don't miss out on not doing your devotionals!....
spend the time each day reading and praying...
then take a few minutes to comment on the blog -- you could win the
Sonic Question of the day!
Thanks goes out to all the student s who have taken the time to
comment each day.
A BIG hello goes out to Aubrey Elliott from OBU....thanks for your
comments and prayers for our upcoming mission trip.
(I'm praying for a great end of your first year in college! I heard
that you're getting better with the piano every day!)
Students, don't miss reading what your peers and others are
saying on the blog each day. A special thanks to Jenny Sorey
for her contributions to the blog...read them, she has great insight!
Today's Sonic
Question of the Day:
I think that today's verses are so powerful in regards to the way that we
should walk everyday. Read them again....in fact, write out verses 15-17
in the comment box for today's question of the day.
Pray for the Scotland band -- we're practicing tonight....a lot of songs to
prepare, but each of the players are working very hard to be ready by
this Sunday.
Have a great night!
Bless ya,
Ken
Thanks for mentioning me in your post! That is so awesome. The piano is... um... let's just say not my favorite! haha. I will never be as good as you.
I like enjoyed the five "fit to serve" steps. I think we all need to be reminded to remember these things. God Bless Mission Scotland 09
Ive been looking over this passage, and took a little time to study about it and was BLOWN AWAY! This miracle of Jesus is one of two miracles that was recorded in all 4 gospels...It may be mentioned as 4,000, but it is an estimated number of men in the crowd, that's not including women and children, which may have equalled 15,000 in total. The main thing is this is a picture of God's grace being mulitiplatory and is enough AND THEN SOME to cover the sins of ALL MEN from the beginning to the end of days! There is no end to his Love and His Grace! Our job is to extend that offer to the multitudes.
This miracle is mirrored, and somewhat prophesied by Elisha in 2 Kings 4: 38-44 as God, through Elisha feeds 100 men with 20 loaves and grain. "For this is what the LORD says: 'They will eat and have some left over." Then Elisha in the next chapter deals with the widow of a prophet of God. The same picture here!! All she has is a jar of oil, and Elisha has her to borrow every vessel she can from anyone she can find. The Lord filled every vessel up with oil! And guess what? There was more than enough!!! AND...what? He says," Go and sell the oil to pay your DEBT, and you and your sons live on the rest." Who does this sound like? Jesus' blood is more than enough to cover our sins and pay our debt!!!
AND, we can rest in our knowledge of our Salvation as the widow and her sons were able to live on the rest!!! We do not have to work to earn our SALVATION!! It is a gift which is free, and we are given rest in Him that we that have accepted Him are held in His hand, and He will never let us go!
There are so many things that God is telling us through this passage, but the main thing is what Jesus says is that, "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger: and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."
I'm running out of time, but could keep going! How deep and wide is His Love!!
What a refreshing way this devo was for my day!!!!
I also really enjoyed these verses, and to have verses 15-17 written in my heart would be a wonderful reminder throughout all I say and do.
Ephesians 5:15-17....
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but wise, making the BEST use of your time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Cease The Day!!!!!
God bless, Carly Sorey
Ephesians 5:15-17 "Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Recently our electricity was out for 10 days due to the ice storm. For the first three days, we had no generator- no power. I found myself thinking the days lasted sooooo long! But now that all is back to "normal" - there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get things done! There are so many distractions - the tv, the computer, the phone...I waste so much time! But I want to live wisely - as a light that shines to a lost world! "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine in you."
Whoa that is some nice photography up there. Tell me who did that photo of Aaryn, then tell me you are taking them with you.
I can't WAIT to see you photos from the trip! can't WAIT!
Wowee, I just went back to read over this, and noticed that my mother like wrote the EXACT same verses as ME!!!! hahah, scary!
