Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

Mission Scotland 09 Blog

412 Praise, a student choir from First Baptist Church Bentonville, Arkansas, has been asked to reach out to the students in Glasgow, Scotland. The young people in Scotland are eager to meet students from the US which gives our students daily opportunities to share their faith in Christ to young people who want to hear what they have to say. This blog will lead up to and follow our trip to Glasgow March 19-28, 2009

It takes a whole village....

Today's devotion is all about serving together in unity! Remind you of a song you've heard lately? Wow! That was exactly what the song was about that the children's choir sang to us yesterday for our send-off!

Romans 12:4-8

"Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully."

Have you taken time to ask God what your spiritual gift is? Has He revealed those special qualities that He has placed in you that He wants you to use to help grow His Kingdom and honor Him?

We must serve together in unity because alone we will serve unevenly! What I mean is, we are both weak and strong - strong in the gift(s) God has given us but weak in other areas. We need to be linked to the Body of Christ, other believers, so that we can have a balanced ministry. We minister to others out of our strengths and we depend on the ministry and gifts of other believers in our areas of weakness.

YESTERDAY'S SONIC WINNER

CARLY SOREY

Thank you Carly for sharing from your heart! I look forward to reading what you write each day (well, almost each day - you've been pretty good about commenting each day!)

Bro. Ken is not feeling very chipper - he's a sick guy! So, that is why the blog is being written so late today! I have been running Scotland errands today and just got home! Lots to do in just two days! Yeah! Let's all wish Bro. Ken a "Get Well Soon" wish!

Thank you Ken for all you do! We all love you and hope you are feeling your "chipper" self soon!

Have you started your packing? Ms. Plunk shared a website that you can go to and create an interactive packing list. I haven't tried it yet, but I did include a link here for you to try it out.

http://www.independenttraveler.com/packing/

I just don't want to forget anything!!!

Also, Ms. Stephanie Elliott shared some reminders today on email - make sure you are checking your email these next few days!

With the "yucky-sickies" that have seemed to creep in, I would recommend getting some Emergen-C! We live by it at our house (and the Word, of course! Ha!) You can get it at Walgreens for sure and at health food stores. I know that SAMS carries a big box of it up front in the vitamin section. I usually drink it in a little glass of orange juice, but you can put it in any juice or water. It is a big boost of Vitamin C and contains other "germ fighting" vitamins and minerals! It works GREAT!

TODAY'S SONIC QUESTION:
What are you doing in obedience to Romans 12 to fulfill your responsibilities to the body of Christ?
Filling in for the Big Guy -

Along with aknowledging those God given gifts, I'm trying to challenge my ability and push myself past expectation, routine or knowledge and trust in Christ to lead me to new growth. As a member of the body of Christ it is my duty to encourage fellow members in their gifts and abilities so that as one we can grow as well.

    EMERGEN-C!!!! EMERGEN-C!!!!!!!! EMERGEN-C!!!!!!!

This is an extreme coincidence!!! This year, when I was revisiing my testimony, I added Romans 12:1-2. In the nutshell it tells me that now that I'm a C-H-R-I-S-T-I-A-N I should live to tell others about God!!! It goes on to tell me that I should stand out to MAKE others want to know the difference in me. So.... I am attempting to change my life. I am trying to over look the negative things, I'm trying to listen to ohters and not just focus on myself. These things definately aren't easy, but I think that its easier than it would be if God wasn't walking by my side, every step of the way!!!!

Well I along with Anna and Leah teach a 7th grade girls bible study and that is such a blessing not only just hanging out with those girls but equipping them with the knowledge they need to know, it can be challenging at times and most of the times when we plan the leasons we are talking about ourselves as well, because we all need to learn and sometime re-learn the lessons of God...

Wow!!! Only 2 days before you all leave. How awesome is that!! I have been reading Proverbs (another favorite of mine). Just wanted to share a few verses that speak to me regarding your mission trip.

For the Lord gives wisdom, from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding, He stores up sound wisdom for the upright, he is a SHIELD to those who walk uprightly, He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of his saints, then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path. Proverbs 2 vs. 6-9.

Do not let MERCY and TRUTH forsake (leave) you; bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3 vs 3-4.

God finds favor in his children who seek wisdom. Take time to read the first 4 chapters of Proverbs. They are basically written for the youth and to me are so powerful. I ssoooo much believe you all are going to see great things happen in Scotland and as you travel. I really am looking forward to you all sharing your journals with us when you return. Brother Ken has committed so much time to this Mission Scotland group and it sure shows!!

You ladies are beautiful inside and out and yes guys, you too are handsome. Continue to let your lights shine with everyone you meet and greet on this trip. God Bless each and everyone of you!

I will be praying Psalm 91 daily for all of you while gone. This has always been my prayer of protection for my family. (Used it bunches when my older children started driving and were on these crazy streets!!! And then the dating scene!!!)
